Sir, – Michael McDowell’s article “We have legislated ourselves into a corner of complete energy dependence” (Opinion & Analysis, September 14th) should be required reading for all TDs. Eamon Ryan should be asked to explain why he has consistently refused to license known gas deposits to be developed while trumpeting our reliance on outside sources. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Michael McDowell in his (usually excellent) opinion piece was unable to fathom why the Minister for the Environment and Climate has “set his face against” developing Irish offshore gas fields.
