Sir, – Conor Gallagher’s excellent article “From nuclear ships to Russian subs: the maritime risks facing Ireland” (News, October 8th) highlights excellently the crisis in the Naval Service. What it also highlights are the neglect, indifference and ineptitude of successive ministers for defence to address the crisis. The Naval Service and the State deserve much better. – Yours, etc,
