Sir, – It is difficult to avoid feeling overwhelmed by the huge challenges which our planet and its populations face in the 21st century. From this can result a sense of helplessness and inertia. And how much worse this is in certain parts of the globe, countries where human rights are so exploited and denied. The young women and their supporters in Iran, who are currently putting their safety and their lives on the line to oppose a misogynistic and brutal regime, are showing us the importance of not sitting back and accepting the status quo. They deserve our support, their fight is our fight, a wonderful display of direct and peaceful action. – Yours, etc,
