Sir, – Regarding Canon Andrew Orr’s excellent article “The 802-year-old Youghal church that survived plague, rebellion and Cromwell” (Rite & Reason, October 17th), on St Mary’s Collegiate Church, the Youghal Garda station was one of the nine barracks under the jurisdiction of my late Midleton-based Garda superintendent father. He often told us that in the old days the present great city of Cork was known as a town near Youghal! – Yours, etc,
SEÁN Ó CEALLAIGH,
Dublin 7.
