Sir, – On foot of Paul Waldron’s recent letter (November 9th) bewailing the lack of information on sustainable transport modes on RTÉ's traffic and travel slot, he asks why are there no updates for those who cycle. People cycling neither cause nor are affected by congestion to the same extent as motorised vehicle users, so I imagine such updates would be quite predictable: “Expect your bike journey to take more or less the same time it took yesterday/an hour ago/last week”. Then again, it might be useful to know which cycle lanes have taxis, vans or private cars illegally parked on them, where traffic is currently exceeding the recommended speed limit and what streets are beloved of close-passing drivers. – Yours, etc,
