The case against tipping

Sir, – Not to tip is stingy, but unless you’re more patrician than most Irish people, to tip can have patronising undertones, and perpetuates a system which absolves employers from paying proper wages to wait staff.

Tipping, or the lack thereof, is another reason to visit Japan.

In Japan, while tipping is not illegal, it is not customary and is considered somewhat insulting. – Yours, etc,
