Sir, – On November 16th, approximately 200 Gaelscoileanna primary school students and their teachers left their classrooms to protest outside the Dáil at the lack of Gaelcholáiste secondary school places for students who wish to be educated through Irish.
There are many Gaelscoilenna primary school students in Ireland, yet there are far fewer Gaelcholáiste secondary school places. This means that only a minority of children attending an Irish language primary school can continue their education at secondary level through Irish.
How can the Government justify this lack of support for the Irish language and those who wish to be educated through Irish? – Yours, etc,
JANE NIC SHAMHRÁIN
