Sir, – Aer Lingus used to offer three meal choices: a chicken dish, a beef dish, and a vegetarian option.
On three transatlantic crossings in the past month, I have noticed what seems to be a policy change: they just offered one meat choice and one vegetarian choice.
The effect of this is that by the time the service trolley is halfway down the aisle, all the meat options are gone, so the only meal offered is a vegetarian one: on the most recent flight, a vegetarian chilli, not everybody’s preferred option, and especially the young children seated near me!
If this is a deliberate cost-saving policy, it is just one more part of the diminution of service quality that I have noticed from the airline that flies under our flag, and is an integral part of “Brand Ireland”, but which unfortunately is now outside our control.
