Deliberate and advise

Sir, – Dáithí Ó hAodha (Letters, February 18th) argues against the use of citizens’ assemblies on the basis that “there is a good chance that members have little or no expertise, experience or wisdom to offer on the issues for consideration”. On that basis, we should immediately abandon the tried and trusted use of juries in the justice system. In the interests of accuracy, these matters are not “handed over” to the respective assemblies, as these groups are advisory rather than directive. – Yours, etc,
