Sir, – Emer McLysaght’s piece on the Stations of the Cross is offensive to Christian believers such as myself (“Catholic Church and drag queens have one thing in common: they live for the drama”, People, April 7th). Would you consider giving the same prominence to an article by a person who believes in God? I understand Emer McLysaght’s view but the light-hearted mockery of a drag show about the Stations of the Cross is a bit much on Good Friday, or any day. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – The death of Jesus Christ and his subsequent resurrection are sacred matters of faith for many people in Ireland and are deserving of respect, even from those who do not share that faith. Emer McLysaght portrays the Passion and Resurrection as some sort of horror show which is not fit for viewing, and suggests that it should be acted out in drag. I suspect The Irish Times would be considerably less willing to publish this type of material if the subject matter were Islam, Hinduism or Judaism, but it seems Catholics are fair game. – Yours, etc,
