Compare and contrast

Exam desk

Sir, – As we are now entering the exam season, please feel free to discuss, compare and contrast, utilising your deepest prejudices, the following as reported in Business + Property, April 26th): “Workers see sharp drop in living standards, says OECD”; “Corporate profits climb 30% to almost €80bn in fourth quarter of 2022″; and “Coalition parties are already trying to manage budgetary expectations against a backdrop of surging tax revenues”.

Additional marks will be given for historical references such as " When I have it I spend it”, “Live horse and get grass”, and “We represent those who get up early in the morning”.

This is not an exhaustive list and other similar excitable sound bites such as “fiscal rectitude, and “sunlight uplands” will bolster final grades.

NB: results may not issue until Christmas eve due to the shortage of examiners and the delay in getting marked scripts returned with the Christmas post, from teachers exiled in Australia, etc. – Yours, etc,
