Sir, – Michael Harding’s “My father’s shadow haunts me” (Life, May 3rd) resonated with me.
My dear father died quite suddenly in 1986. With family and my prospective wife’s very important and complete agreement I took over the “family business”.
Now, I find myself in “my own” business for nearly 40 years, almost eight years more than my late lamented and dear father.
My patrons still lament the absence of his professional competence, capacity and negotiation abilities.

In the utmost humility, I bow, and listen to my dear father, for his nudge and advice in my left ear and shoulder. When I listen, and I always do, he’s never wrong.
