Voting rights and the Irish abroad

A role for the Seanad

Sir, –The establishment of a diaspora panel of Senators seems to me at least a sensible and practical way of giving the diaspora a voice in our Oireachtas without the risk of overseas voters changing the State’s fiscal policy. After all, the Seanad cannot vote down a money Bill sent to it by the Dáil. If this arrangement is good enough for the graduates of NUI and Trinity, it is certainly good enough for the rest of us. – Yours, etc,

RICHARD LOGUE,

London.
