Sir, – Michael McDowell (Opinion, May 24th) is correct when he writes that, “Unionists and loyalists have nothing to lose, and everything to gain, from making the North succeed economically”. That unionism continues to value sectional privilege accruing to itself above potential economic advantage accruing to all is a significant factor persuading voters in the North of the need for constitutional change. Given the changing electoral and demographic picture, the Irish Government needs to set out in detail what will be on offer to people North and South in a reunified Ireland. – Yours, etc,
