Sir, – At lunchtime on Monday, I was privileged to attend a brilliant concert at the National Concert Hall in Dublin, marred only on two occasions as the phones of audience members rang. The owner of the second phone seemed, oddly, to have no knowledge as to how to silence it, shrugging her shoulders as if it wasn’t her responsibility.
It seems unbelievable that no person or company has the wit to design a soundproof box into which one might deposit a phone, or that, in this era of artificial intelligence, no one seems able, or prepared, to jam signals which would mean that phones would not ring. – Yours, etc,
STEPHEN YEO,
Dublin 14.
