Sea swimming bans

Bacteria levels are rising

Sir, – With regard to another depressing report that sea swimming bans are in place at locations in Dublin and Wexford (“Swimming bans issued for several Dublin and Wexford beaches amid rise in bacteria levels,” July 8th), I am reminded of Brendan Behan’s observation that “people don’t actually swim in Dublin Bay. They are merely going through the motions.” At this rate, in Dublin at least, we will see letters in The Irish Times in a few years with quips about E.Coliemore Harbour. – Yours, etc,

ULTAN Ó BROIN,

Co Dublin.
