Sir, – During the past seven weeks, while convalescing after surgery, I have had the luxury of thoroughly reading The Irish Times daily, from cover to cover.
On Monday, for the first time in all those long weeks, camogie got some publicity – a photograph and two articles, with a short mention on the front page, while hurling, as often happens, got widespread reporting plus a number of photos.
There are more than 100,000 camogie players in Ireland in 625 clubs yet, all through those dreary days, I read of horseracing, cycle racing, athletics, football (soccer and Gaelic), rugby, boxing, kick boxing, martial arts, tennis, cricket, rowing, etc, but no mention of camogie.
Camogie is unique to Ireland and surely we should be proud of the game and encourage girls to be more active?
