Sir, – Mark Mohan is determined to misunderstand what lies behind the current housing crisis (“Exodus of landlords from rental market”, Letters, July 25th). As Micheál Martin persists in telling us when pressed on the matter, the cause of the housing crisis is lack of supply. If there were adequate affordable housing stock to meet demand, whether private landlords existed or not would hardly be noticed by the general public. In that orderly state of affairs, landlords would revert to their proper place of providing short-term tenure for urban starters and the small mobile segment of the population engaged in flexible labour markets. – Yours, etc,

New Irish citizens: ‘I hear the racist and xenophobic slurs on the streets. Everything is blamed on immigrants’
Jack Reynor: ‘We were in two minds between eloping or going the whole hog but we got married in Wicklow with about 220 people’
‘I could have gone to California. At this rate, I probably would have raised about half a billion dollars’
Sir, – Anne Harris attempts to blame Sinn Féin for the lack of housing (Opinion & Analysis, July 25th). If mental gymnastics were an Olympic event, I’m sure she could bring home the gold. – Yours, etc,
