Sir, – Further to “Here’s one small change you can make on school run to reduce emissions and save lives” (Life, October 3rd), between the years of 1978 to 1991, my “school run” as a child was by foot, then bike, and latterly by bus and train.
Almost all of my schoolmates did the same.
We endured the horrors of getting wet, being cold, sitting on top decks of busses full of smoke and waiting endlessly at bus stops for busses that came as they felt like it. So instead of the tip of not idling engines at school gates, maybe mandate children to make their own way by more sustainable means than they seem to now.
After all, it is their generation who are the most vocal about sustainability. – Yours, etc,
