Sir, – Hugh Linehan’s surprisingly nasty piece on Smithfield does him no credit (”Time Out says Smithfield’s the second-coolest place on the planet. It’s not even the second-coolest place in Dublin 7″, October 19th). Far from being “lifeless” and “soulless”, thousands of residents gladly call Smithfield their home. Dozens of new businesses have chosen to set up there and bring hundreds of workers to the neighbourhood every day. There must be a reason that tourists and Dubs from other parts of the city keep making their way to Smithfield.
We’re not that pushed about being “coolest” in Smithfield but we know what makes a good neighbourhood. And that’s what Smithfield is. – Yours, etc,
