Sir, – Heartwarming to see Jim Kilgarriff’s letter acknowledging those who helped him up when he fell (November 8th).
A similar experience befell (sorry) me recently in Lisdoonvarna. Having parked the car successfully and got out, somehow the edge of the pavement ambushed me on the way to the shop. A young man and woman both promptly and good-humouredly levered me up. Sean O’Casey’s Captain Boyle was on the button about the world being in a state of chassis. It is good to live in a country where spontaneous kindness can more than compensate for a momentary loss of dignity, and even improve the day. – Yours, etc,
