Sir, – Your timely and otherwise informative special report on the Gift of Giving (Saturday, November 25th) omitted to mention the Charitable Donation Scheme operated by the Revenue Commissioners whereby if an individual donates €250 or more in a year to a registered charity, the charity can claim a refund of the tax paid on that donation, thus boosting the donation by up to 44.9 per cent. Unfortunately, some well-known charities fail to mention the Charitable Donation Scheme in their literature when appealing for funds. – Yours, etc,
BRIAN D’ARCY,
Ballinteer,
