Sir, – The idea that we combine three parts green with one part orange to create a neutral olive-coloured flag is not as straightforward as it seems (Letters, January 23rd).
Which green do we combine, as it appears Ireland alone contains at least 40 shades? St Patrick green or republican green? Traditional, environmental or sentimental green? And then there is political green and innocent “green”. And that only leads us on to orange – sunset orange, fruit orange or Trump orange? And the political orange has numerous iterations to negotiate, which too can darken any olive hue. This may eventually give us a palette of deep and despairing grey – Yours, etc,

A chara, – Am I the only one wondering why a new flag will be needed if a majority in the six counties votes to join the Republic, which already has a flag? – Is mise,
