Sir, – Further to John Mulqueen’s piece on the Irish Anti-Apartheid Movement (An Irishman’s Diary, January 22nd), it is possibly the only organisation voluntarily to go out of existence once its purpose had been achieved. It didn’t morph into a South Africa solidarity organisation, or turn its attention elsewhere; it shut up shop and ceased being: mission accomplished.
Another reason to celebrate a movement that brought real purpose to Irish public life. – Yours, etc,
