Sir, – I hope I am not the only micromanaged person who showed Joe Humphreys’s excellent article to the micromanager in my durable relationship (“Don’t take this the wrong way: Five things you need to know about giving advice”, Unthinkable, January 29th). Does that mean I am trying to micromanage my micromanager? Are letters to The Irish Times deemed blunt advice? Food for thought. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Having worked in a management role in a number of organisations, I can sympathise with the temptation to micromanage. However, for an individual, a team and an organisation to thrive, trust is essential. Leaders should place faith in their junior colleagues, and the resulting autonomy will unlock potential, adding value to the institution. – Yours, etc,
