Sir, – Regarding “Trips by private cars and commercial vehicles ‘through’ central Dublin to be banned by August”(News, February 7th), I note that Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan draws a distinction between motorists travelling “to” and “through” the city centre. May I ask how long a motorist travelling through the city centre has to stay in the city centre in order to qualify as having travelled to the city centre, and thus escape a wigging from whatever quango will be established to police this preposterous idea?
If I take a lead from singer Damien Dempsey and travel from the Northside, heading south, how long must I stop in the city centre for that journey to become legitimate in the eyes of the Minister and his acolytes?
Ten minutes? Half an hour? Should I bring sandwiches and a flask of (green) tea? I feel we should be told. – Is mise,
