Bringing Gaelic games to the Olympics

The world awaits

Sir, – Seán Moran’s piece on the GAA’s intention to apply for the inclusion of Gaelic games in future Olympic Games is very interesting (Sport February 23rd). Unfortunately, there are some major hurdles to be cleared before that goal can become a genuine runner. The Olympic charter indicates that in order to be accepted, a sport must be widely practised by men in 75 countries and on four continents and by women in no fewer than 40 countries on three continents.

Not an impossible task, but much work to do. – Yours, etc,
