Sir, – Further to “Upgrading the A5 and A8 is not only about safety – this is constitutional politics in concrete form” (Opinion & Analysis, February 22nd), I can accept our Government contributing to the cost of the A5 linking the northwest with Dublin and upgrading the Belfast to Dublin rail link.
I find it difficult to understand the contribution of €50 million to the development of Casement Park in Belfast. Perhaps I am missing something but I do not recall any contribution coming from either the Northern Ireland or the UK toward the redevelopment of either Croke Park or the Aviva stadium. We have needs here when we look at our health services, the housing shortage, not to mention the apparently bottomless money pit that is our long-awaited children’s hospital. – Yours, etc,
