Sir, – Further to the letter headlined “How green are greenways?” (March 18th), if we want to encourage walkers, parents with buggies, anyone who may need to use walking sticks and those in wheelchairs to interact with nature in a city, I think it’s reasonable to have tarmac paths. If we would also like people to be safe and feel safe then nocturnal lighting would also be a help. Otherwise there are hundreds of thousands of acres of wild countryside to wander through outside of our cities. You simply can’t please all of the people all of the time. – Yours, etc,
