Sir, – I read with interest Cliff Taylor’s excellent suggestion that banks should be encouraged to reintroduce bridging loans to boost activity in the secondary housing market (“Bridging loans: would the return of this kind of finance help those who want to downsize to a smaller home?”, Opinion & Analysis, April 4th). This would allow people to downsize if they wished and provide interim cashflow. I would also suggest that access to bridging loans would encourage people to avail of the vacant property refurbishment grant once they have received approval from their local county council. – Yours, etc,
