Sir, – Further to “Skorts are meant to make camogie players more ladylike. Who asked for that?” (Opinion & Analysis, April 14th), in the early 1980s, it was a joy for my generation of camogie players to move on to wearing skorts. They were much more comfortable than the old uniform of gym slips and black tights. Personally, I continued to find them more comfortable than shorts, and it’s pretty obvious from the recent democratic decision made by the Camogie Association that the skorts have a lot of fans. Having moved on to playing golf, my favourite items of clothing are my skorts. These only came onto the golf clothing market in recent years and have taken over the shorts market for the simple reason that they are very comfortable items of clothing. If some camogie players find their skorts uncomfortable, maybe they need to find a new supplier.
If you play cricket, you wear a uniform. If you play basketball, you wear a uniform. Each sport has its own distinct clothing and, while it may not be to everyone’s taste, it is a distinguishing feature of that sport. Embrace it. – Yours, etc,
