Does the Government intend to pursue a review or does it plan to simply roll over?

Sir, – It is months now since Ireland and Spain formally requested a review of the EU-Israel Association Agreement and, specifically, an investigation of whether Israel is in breach of the human rights clause (“Ireland and Spain seek ‘urgent review’ of Israel trade over EU deal’s human rights obligations”, February 14th).

It is now clear that there is no review under way. Moreover, it is equally obvious that a review of the trade agreement is not currently planned.

This appears to be a direct snubbing of the Irish Government, which surely requires a substantive response.

Does the Government intend to pursue this issue within the EU, or does it plan to simply roll over? Also, bearing in mind this inaction by the EU, is it not long past time for Ireland to implement unilateral trade and other sanctions against Israel? – Yours, etc,
