A chara, – I am a fan of The Irish Times debate format and thoroughly enjoyed Tuesday’s iteration (“Should the mandatory three-day wait for abortion be lifted?” Opinion, April 23rd). The contrasting views expressed by Dr Mary Favier and Eilís Mulroy gave much food for thought.
However, I have to take issue with the extraordinary closing statement of Ms Mulroy: “it’s time to interrogate our soaring abortion numbers…”
Starting from a situation of no service and arriving at our current position, how can one logically argue that we have soaring numbers? Dr Favier, midway through her article, calls for evidence-based practice, and it is my view that all contributions to the debate should follow this principle. – Le dea guí,
