Sir, – Taoiseach Simon Harris has established a Dublin City Taskforce, to be chaired by An Post chief executive David McRedmond, to make the city centre a more “thriving, attractive, and safe cityscape” (News, May 10th).
The provision of adequate Garda numbers and resources to effectively police the streets is what is required, something that has been lacking for over a decade. The tolerance of anti-social behaviour, drug dealing in public view, with little fear of the consequences, has lead to the attractiveness of the city centre declining greatly, particularly for elderly members of the public.
You don’t need a taskforce to tell you that. Walk the city streets and you will soon figure it out. – Yours, etc,
