A chara, – Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael seem cock-a-hoop with their election results. They did not increase their share of the vote. They are somehow hailing a Sinn Féin implosion and a further fracturing of the Opposition as a victory for themselves. They may see that as good news but the election of a raft of single-issue councillors, extremists and other eccentrics is not good news for the Irish people. Both parties remind me of one of those junior B football teams who lost the match but are happy because they busted up the other lads fairly well. – Yours, etc,
