A chara, – Further to “View from Iceland: Heimir Hallgrímsson’s achievements reveal a will to win that is second to none” (Sport, July 11th), after 231 days, it is great to see the appointment of Heimir Hallgrímsson as the new head coach of the FAI men’s team. As a former dentist, was he appointed for his skills at filling a gap or for reducing pain? – Is mise,

Ann Ingle: Deliberately going out of my way to move for no particular reason has never appealed to me
Gerry Thornley: How about an alternative look at Ireland’s Six Nations win over England?
Is Ireland anti-Semitic, an outlier of tolerance or in the middle ground?
How risky is it to buy a second-hand EV?
Sir, – I know Heimir Hallgrímsson is a qualified dentist, but what about his ability as a footballer and a coach?
Does he have any caps? Does he know how to drill players? Will he get to the root of Ireland’s problems on the pitch? Can he bridge the gap between his squad of players and other more technically gifted international sides?
Can he extract from his players a commitment to fight tooth and nail for every ball in every international match they’re involved in?
If the answer to all the above questions is yes, Heimir could crown it all by guiding Ireland to qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
Indeed, I think Ireland fans would be well advised to brace themselves for what could turn out to be a quite exhilarating football odyssey. – Yours, etc,
PAUL DELANEY,
