Sir, – With election fever and budget kite flying dominating the headlines, politicians from all sides are making numerous promises. The Tánaiste’s recent remarks regarding measures to attract more landlords to the rental market and the potential increase in rental credit in the upcoming budget clearly indicate the influence of lobbyists, while the concerns of ordinary citizens are being overlooked.
It is self-evident that nobody wishes to spend their life renting, lining someone else’s pockets with exorbitant sums of money. The population aspires to possess their own homes. However, the proliferation of build-to-rent properties being constructed and the voracious appetite of professional landlords and vulture funds purchasing large quantities of homes for sale are rendering the dream of home-ownership increasingly challenging, if not entirely unattainable.
The Government appears to be turning a deaf ear to these pressing issues. Could it be that citizens will choose to end their “tenancy” in Leinster House by voting differently in the future? – Yours, etc,
THOMAS O’CONNOR,
Crumlin,
