Sir, – Ronan McGreevy’s article “Ireland is not full” (Opinion & Analysis, August 2nd) is a convincing and forceful rebuttal of far-right propaganda and the empty mantra that “Ireland is full”.
Once again, it shows how our ability to make sense of the present is deepened and enriched by journalism that draws on a genuine, evidence-based understanding of the past. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – In attempting to counteract “Ireland is full” memes, Ronan McGreevy states that South Korea has 10 times the population of Ireland.
What he leaves out is the 10 times population consists mainly of Koreans.
South Korea in 2022 had an official estimate of 8,986 homeless people out of a total population of 52 million.
His uncrowded Ireland of five million has 14,300 homeless in shelters, while charities say the real figure is 30,000, with many more in crowded accommodation, sofa surfing, and so on.
Perhaps he can expand on his argument the next time. – Yours, etc,
