Sir, – The gardening article “Irish wildflowers: Growing your own mini-meadow isn’t always easy but the results are magical”, August 10th) gave some excellent advice on rewilding even in the smallest of spaces, and included a helpful list of Irish wildflower species and practical techniques to encourage native mini-meadow growth. However, the accompanying picture of a wildflower meadow included some strange butterflies not normally seen in the wild in Ireland. Aside from what appeared to be a Swallowtail, there were three other species – what looked like Heliconius hewitsoni, Idea leuconoe and Parthenos sylvia. These are creatures from Asia and Latin America and would not be found in an Irish meadow. – Yours, etc,
