Sir, – Further to recent correspondence (September 1st), I can see why some craft beers don’t hit the sweet spot for some drinkers. Some are too bitter, some too dark, some are too “hoppy” and some, like Goldilocks’s porridge, are just right. That is the wonder of these great brews, far from some global brands which are designed to be bland enough to offend nobody, and are all image and little character. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – I fully agree with Enda Cullen’s appeal for support for Irish craft brewers (Letters, September 1st).
However, I would ask for a caveat. Those of us older drinkers whose palates are not in tune with the excessively citrus nature of excessively hopped New England India Pales Ales, etc, are badly served these days. Therefore, I would ask craft brewers to consider reducing the amount of beer they produce that tastes like it has come out of the wrong end of a cat and provide some much-needed variety. – Yours, etc,
