Sir, – I cannot be alone in coming to the conclusion that unless the Football Association of Ireland and the Irish Football Association grasp the nettle and field one team, we may as well forsake international soccer on this island.
Yes, there are cultural and historical obstacles. But we are able to successfully surmount these when it comes to rugby, cricket, hockey and, of course, Olympic sports, such as athletics, swimming, and boxing. Common sense and compromise might give future generations of Irish soccer players a fighting chance too. – Yours, etc,
