Costly rail tickets

Train of thought

Sir, – I have just bought two return train tickets from Dublin to Killarney, at a cost of €120. Having recently made the same journey by car, I can confirm that the cost of the train for two adults is significantly more than the price of petrol to not only get us to and from Killarney but also to drive around the Ring of Kerry.

The cost of the train fare is surely not helpful in encouraging people to do without their cars more. – Yours, etc,

DARREN O’BRIEN,

Dublin 7.
