Sir, – I was disappointed to hear that the line judges at the All England Club in Wimbledon are to be replaced with an electronic line-calling system next year, in line with other major tennis venues worldwide (“You cannot be serious? Wimbledon abolishes line judges after 147 years”, Sport, October 9th).

I’m going to miss watching their peculiar postures while on the job, marvelling at their immaculately pressed uniforms, the variety of voices calling “out” or “fault”, and occasionally being the cause of the odd contretemps between an umpire and a disgruntled player.
