Guitars were meant to be played

Sound argument

A chara, – I was delighted to read of the National Museum of Ireland acquiring the guitar of the late, great Rory Gallagher (News, October 17th).

However, I despair it should remain behind protective glass, inanimate, without any intrinsic beauty or worth. Loan it to one of our many aspiring young musicians and reflect in its true quality, the glorious sound produced, remembered and revered by countless fans of Rory. A replica instrument with accompanying explanation would surely be more appreciated by true music lovers. – Yours, etc,

EPHRAIM PURCELL,
