Sir, – As a regular summer visitor to west Clare, over the years I have commented on the disastrous traffic conditions coming from the major tourism centres of the Cliffs of Moher, Lahinch, Doolin and coastal centres in west Clare at Blake’s Corner in Ennistymon. I had mistakenly assumed that this was largely caused by tourist traffic. On visiting again in late October, I note that there is little difference in the volume of traffic (and length of the tail-back) compared to the summer.
There appears to be group of local, national and other interests who appear to accept this situation, which must be damaging the tourism businesses in the affected areas. There are times when an external arbiter needs to be called in with the power to address situations like this and allow the good of the majority to prevail.
This may be one of those times I would urge all interested parties to move forward with actions, not resolutions, to resolve this long-standing blight on this part of of Clare. – Yours, etc,
