Sir, – I disagree with those of your correspondents who suggest naming the bridge after Katie Taylor. She is a young person who surely has many more decades of achievement and triumph before her. There are many worthy of the honour who are much older and who would value such a public acknowledgment. There are also those who are gone from us.
Among these my suggestion would be the great writer and social commentator James Plunkett, who wrote the epic Dublin novel Strumpet City, and who was dubbed by some as “the conscience of the city”. What about Plunkett Bridge? – Yours, etc.
Sir, – “O, rejoice beyond a common joy, and set it down with gold on lasting pillars.” In celebration of Katie and the whole team, why not call it the “Olympic Bridge”? – Yours, etc,
