Sir, - Having been to Jose Carreras in the Point Theatre, I feel that questions must be raised as to the suitability of the Point as a classical music venue. What also should be questioned is the fact that seats costing £30 provided a view which caused some people to ask "is this Carreras?" when the conductor, quite dissimilar to Carreras, appeared on stage, as well as a sound only audible when everyone held their breath. The acoustics of the Point provided absolutely no amplification of sound whatsoever and any sound that did reach the back was drowned out by latecomers tramping on the balcony, the popping of champagne corks in the bar right behind and the incessant hum of some kind of machinery.

Of course, it's my own fault for not spending £65 on a proper seat, but I believe that a young student should be able to spend her life savings on a concert ticket and actually be able to hear and see what she paid for. Yours, etc.,
