Madam, - In his article "The Master's House" (The Irish Times, June 14th) Frank Mc Donald wrote of the original owners of Abbeville House.
Another famous resident was Mary Frances Cusack who became known as the Nun of Kenmare. Her family were the poor relations of other Cusacks who owned the house during part of the 19th century.
Mary Frances went on to become a powerful advocate for the poor and uneducated in both Ireland and the United States, incurring the wrath and condemnation of church authorities in both countries in doing so. She is also known for her books, among the most notable of which are her History of the Kingdom of Kerry and her polemic, Inside the Church of Rome.
She died in 1899 and was buried in Leamington, Warwickshire, as a Methodist. - Yours, etc,
MARIE MacSWEENEY, Drogheda, Co Louth.
