A chara, – You carry a report (Home News, August 8th) that east Clare, ie “. . .Killaloe, Scariff or Tulla . . .” are all for consideration as the new venue for sittings of Clare District Court.
I am disappointed to note that Feakle is omitted from consideration as a venue, especially when I recall that way back in 1780 Brian Merriman penned the line: “Tá an Chúirt seo seasmhach feasta sa bhFiacail” later translated by Donncha Ulf as “The Court henceforth will holden be on Feakle’s Plains attend to me”.
I invite the members of Cumann Merriman to support a campaign to have Feakle at long last chosen as a permanent home for Clare Court.
Thus would emerge the final vindication of our revered poet and his immortal Cúirt an Mheán Oíche. – Is mise,
