Sir, – I do not doubt that a vegan diet may reduce the risk of contracting several life-shortening diseases and lead to a longer life span (Jennifer White, December 29th). The downside is that a life fuelled only by lentils, greens and soya milk would, to a committed carnivore, seem really, really long, no matter how many pages were added to one's calendar. – Yours, etc,
